impact of covid 19

The time of Covid brought so many reforms in our lives. Not only personal life but professional life also got affected to a larger extent. Covid-19 affected everyone, and there was a significant consequence on education.

Once the COVID-19 pandemic escalated, educational boards mandated that all college and university-level coursework be held online. Remote learning was adopted by all major institutions and schools all across the globe. Also, a drastic change was seen in education, suspending physical classes.  Who thought that learning would take such a shift anytime?

Problems faced during online education

It was commonly seen and faced by a lot of students out there. Also, the students faced major problems and challenges while remote learning. Some of these are as follows:

  • Restricted to screen:

  • Students became restricted to screens. With everything going online, it became a hindrance to learning and grasping for the students. The students were forced to give up their normal situation. They had to leave the old norms and adapt to the new environment.

  • No practicality:

  • There was no practicality intended during online classes. Online learning became a roadblock in studies. Students often need help with keeping up pace with the teachers. The education system started to rely on Google Meet or Zoom. The interaction between students and teachers was restricted to online mediums.

  • Less focus on students:

  • Due to remote learning, teachers could only focus on some students. With the increased batch size and online batches, it became difficult for them to manage the classes and students simultaneously. However, online learning can’t decide the ultimate success and failure of the students.

  • Barriers to learning:

  • Learning is a cognitive process that requires real-life skills and practicality. All these things need to be improved in online classes. The classrooms were restricted to an online approach, depriving the students of knowledge and skills.

How to Shape a Better Way for Online Education?

Educators and students alike need to be made more aware of the benefits of online platforms so that their use may be boosted. The success of online instruction relies on the familiarity of both instructors and students with its various components:

  • Online classroom design and organization
  • Student-instructor interaction
  • Course material
  • Technological assistance
  • Course delivery

Online education has the potential to be more efficient and widely accepted across India if service providers and educational institutions work together to increase the standard of online instruction.

Further study is needed to improve the online sector’s design and approach. Also, the primary criterion should be available to all without placing undue financial stress on students and educators.

While online and remote learning has been around for some time. But, in recent years, universities and colleges have seriously addressed the option of taking classes online.
