The national governing body has launched the ‘Hockey India ka Abhiyan Har Ghar Ho Hockey Ki Pehchan’ program to bring hockey to underserved areas of the country by encouraging all districts to hold regular coaching camps and intra-district competitions.

All about Hockey Championship 2023

As a follow-up to the 1st Hockey India Zonal Championships, which were held in the North, South, East, and West regions, the National Sports Federation has urged all of the State Member Units to work closely with their respective district associations and ensure they host regular activities to help promote hockey and scout talent.

Tournaments like these give participants a sense of purpose and encourage them to get out and play. Hockey India recommends that each state host district and state competitions during the year, with the state champions being determined by the district tournament results. In addition, the selection of each state’s team for the Hockey India National Championships is aided by the results of the state championships.

Raising awareness for hockey

“Six divisions (Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Men, Junior Women, Sub Junior Men, and Sub Junior Women) must be established for all State and District events and the National Championship events. They stipulated that the teams representing each district in the state championship would be selected there.

Shri Bhola Nath Singh, the Secretary General of Hockey India, stated that such competitions and coaching camps are held regularly as part of Hockey India’s initiative to bring hockey to every city, colony, block, and hamlet.

Training for bringing new talent

These tournaments and training camps have already begun at the district level in several states, including Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Le Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar, Kerala, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Arunachal. Simdega, Jammu, Jamtara, Hardoi, Muzzafarpur, Upper Subansiri, Jharsuguda, and Villianur are only some districts that have finished holding coaching camps and matches for younger players.

To further facilitate and provide any support needed in promoting the sport, Hockey India office bearers are in constant communication with their Member Units, and hockey sticks and balls were distributed in various states as part of the “Hockey India ka Abhiyan Har Ghar Ho Hockey Ki Pehchan program.”
