When it was announced on March 3 that Deepika Padukone would be one of the presenters at the Oscars in 2023, she once again brought honour to India. Padukone’s accomplishments are nothing new for India. The Pathaan actor was a jury member at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
Padukone announced on March 1 that she would represent Qatar Airways as a brand ambassador. “Global Brand Ambassador Announcement—Excited Beyond Words!” it read. Padukone revealed the trophy during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. She was the first person of Indian descent to receive this award. She said, “I truly couldn’t have asked for more, from unveiling the FIFA World Cup Trophy to witnessing one of the greatest games in sporting history.”
Adding many more feathers to the cap
Padukone has been hired as a spokesperson for the home furnishings company Pottery Barn. She has been collaborating with the San Francisco team on a capsule collection for autumn 2023. According to The Business Of Fashion, Padukone’s appointment as Louis Vuitton’s first Indian brand ambassador resulted in a massive increase in the company’s media impact value (MIV) in October 2022. Padukone appeared in seven of the top 10 most popular brand photos.
The performer from Pathaan has become one of the most in-demand entrepreneurs after introducing her skincare line, 82° East, to the world. Interestingly, Padukone is not the first Indian performer to present at the Academy Awards. Priyanka Chopra isn’t the only one who’s done it before.
Why did she became emotional at RRR’s win?
Just as the rest of India did when RRR’s name was announced as the Best Original Song Oscar winner, Deepika Padukone got choked up in her seat. As MM Keeravani and Chandrabose accepted their prizes, she fought back the tears. When Keeravani said, “I grew up listening to The Carpenters; here I am with the Oscars,” Deepika became tearful.
Then, he sang, “There was only one wish on my mind, so was Rajamouli’s and my family’s; RRR has to win, pride of every Indian and must put me on top of the world.”
This was preceded by Deepika Padukone’s presentation of Naatu Naatu’s rendition performance, making her the third Indian presenter of the night. ‘This next song has become a worldwide phenomenon because of its irresistibly catchy chorus, thrilling beats, and killer dancing movements,’ she said.
